چکیده

TheMiraAB system is a nearby ( 107 pc) example of awind accreting binary star system. In this class of system, the wind from amass-losing red giant star (Mira A) is accreted onto a companion (Mira B), as indicated by an accretion shock signature in spectra at ultraviolet and X-ray wavelengths. Using novel imaging techniques, we report the detection of emission at mid-infrared wavelengths between 9.7 and 18.3 m from the vicinity of Mira B but with a peak at a radial position about 10AU closer to the primaryMiraA.We interpret themid-infrared emission as the edge of an optically-thick accretion disk heated by Mira A. The discovery of this new class of accretion disk fed by M-giant mass loss implies a potential population of young planetary systems in white dwarf binaries, which has been little explored despite being relatively common in the solar neighborhood. Subject headinggs: binaries: symbiotic — stars: AGB and post-AGB — stars: individual (Mira AB) — stars: winds, outflows — techniques: interferometric

Dust evolution in protoplanetary accretion disks

The time evolution of dust particles in circumstellar disk-like structures around protostars and young stellar objects was investigated. For the first time, we coupled the dust evolution directly to the evolution of the disk and followed the influence of opacity changes due to collisional aggregation on the dynamics of the disk. For that purpose, we numerically simulated the dynamical evolution...

Two-Dimensional Transport of Solids in Viscous Protoplanetary Disks

Large-scale radial transport of solids appears to be a fundamental consequence of protoplanetary disk evolution based on the presence of high temperature minerals in comets and the outer regions of protoplanetary disks around other stars. Further, inward transport of solids from the outer regions of the solar nebula has been postulated to be the manner in which short-lived radionuclides were in...

The origin of short-lived radionuclides and the astrophysical environment of solar system formation

Based on early solar system abundances of short-lived radionuclides (SRs), such as Al (T1/2 = 0.74 Myr) and Fe (T1/2 = 1.5 Myr), it is often asserted that the Sun was born in a large stellar cluster, where a massive star contaminated the protoplanetary disk with freshly nucleosynthesized isotopes from its supernova (SN) explosion. To account for the inferred initial solar system abundances of s...

Outward transport of high-temperature materials around the midplane of the solar nebula.

The Stardust samples collected from Comet 81P/Wild 2 indicate that large-scale mixing occurred in the solar nebula, carrying materials from the hot inner regions to cooler environments far from the Sun. Similar transport has been inferred from telescopic observations of protoplanetary disks around young stars. Models for protoplanetary disks, however, have difficulty explaining the observed lev...

Thermal Effects of Circumplanetary Disk Formation around Proto-Gas Giant Planets

The formation of a circumplanetary disk and accretion of angular momentum onto a protoplanetary system are investigated using three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations. The local region around a protoplanet in a protoplanetary disk is considered with sufficient spatial resolution: the region from outside the Hill sphere to the Jovian radius is covered by the nested-grid method. To investigat...
